The incumbent serves as a Utility Systems Repair/Operator (USRO) for the Grand Junction Veterans Health Care System and is responsible for both boiler and chiller repair and operations. During non-regular duty hours when there is no supervisor present, the incumbent has shift responsibility and serves as the "operator in charge".
Duties
Major Duties include but not limited too:
Responsible for the safe operation of the central heating plant which consists of three (3) Johnston 200 horsepower, 6900 lb./hr. fire tube boilers.
Responsible for the operation of One (1) 275 ton Magnetic Bearing Chiller
Incumbent fields hot and cold calls, as well as other Engineering service calls
Perform operator-level preventive and corrective maintenance as well as repairs on chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, steam traps, and other associated equipment as well as installing, performing major maintenance, repairing, extensive troubleshooting, and modifying multiple fuel heating and power boilers and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment.
Starts, operates, adjusts, stops, maintains, and performs various operational repairs on one or more, single or multiple fuels, HVAC systems, power boilers, and associated auxiliary equipment (including water softeners).
Records steam production and other operating data at hourly intervals as required on the steam log sheet, changes flow charts, and computes daily use of makeup water, steam production, and average outside temperature.
Maintains a comfortable environment throughout the campus, controlling air-handlers, hot water reheat systems, and chilled water pumps via the Johnson Controls METASYS control system.
Work Schedule: 12- hour rotating shifts

Physical Requirements: This position requires walking, standing, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling moderately heavy loads daily and occasionally heavy loads. Incumbent must be in good physical condition, have good eyesight with or without glasses and cannot be colorblind.
