This position is a Nurse located at the White Earth Health Center (WEHC) with duty station located at the Naytahwaush Health Center, Naytahwaush, Minnesota. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) or Designee.
Duties

Performs professional nursing duties for the care of inpatients (ambulatory care outpatients, emergency cases, and patients in specialty clinics).
Carries out treatments and emergency or other procedures required; administers medications; observes and documents patients' conditions, changes and reactions to medications and medical treatment.
Provides counseling and teaching to patients and families or surrogates on preventive, curative and rehabilitative measures involved in health care.
Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in nursing through continuing education staff meetings, workshops and serving on nursing committees.
Maintains health records by documenting observations, nursing interventions and therapeutic measures administered.

Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
AND
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Experience
Basic Requirements for the GS-09 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
GS-09: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; OR At least one full year of professional nursing (experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.
Nursing Experience Defined:
GS-09: providing professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of patients; knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations including the implementation of life saving procedures; providing counseling, guidance and health instruction to patients; and identifying disease entities in order to recognize complications and therapeutic interventions required
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
