The primary purpose of this position is to operate airfield clearing equipment, auxiliary equipment, and service and operate aircraft deicer vehicles during the aircraft deicing operations and to perform Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) flight line dispatch functions and AGE service inspections.

Duties

Operate deicer GL-1800 and performs deicing duties on F-22, C-17, and F-15 aircraft. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Performs dispatch driving of Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE). Maintains records and documents action.

  • Shift work is required, and overtime may be required.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid drivers license is required for the position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • The employee may be recalled to work.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • The work may be under adverse environmental conditions.
  • This position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast and depth.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • IAW DoDI 3020-42 this position has been locally or command designated as Mission Essential (ME); needed to ensure the continued operation of mission essential functions of the activity.
  • Mission Essential personnel may be required to report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting, and remain on duty during phased or early release.
  • This is a PERMANENT WINTER SEASONAL POSITION.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the Work of an Airfield Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of technical practices associated with repair and maintenance of deicer trucks. Ability to drive safely, interpret/apply instructions required for flight line deicer truck operation, and demonstrate reliability and dependability as a deicer truck operator. Ability to use and maintain tools and special equipment needed to repair and maintain deicer vehicles and interpret instructions, specification, and schematics associated with deicing trucks. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation. Ability to use and maintain power/hand tools required for operator maintenance of equipment. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate physical effort is used by the operator in reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls to operate the equipment and attachments while sitting for extended periods of time. Requires moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing ladders and trucks to service tanks. Weight lifted seldom exceeds 50 pounds. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions while installing items, reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand/powered tools. Eyestrain is probable when operating vehicles during adverse weather conditions. WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee works outside in all kinds of weather, often in an open driver's seat. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning, and to slipping and sliding on ice or snow. Employee is subject to noise, dirt, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while operating or servicing vehicles. May be required to wear protective clothing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
