Duties

Research and develop magnetic materials for radio-frequency and microwave-frequency device applications. Using bottom-up and top-down approaches, synthesize magnetic materials and incorporate these materials into composites to produce engineered electromagnetic response at relevant frequencies. Characterize the AC and DC permeability of these materials across a range of magnetic fields strengths and temperatures. Develop fabrication schemes for patterning nanocomposite materials on length scales relevant for chip-scale devices, and construct test circuits for performing measurements at these scales.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND In addition to the basic requirements: Applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 (ZP-II at NIST) level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience in characterization of magnetic materials for high-frequency applications, experience with magnetometry at variable magnetic field and temperature conditions, designing and testing of magnetic devices, and modeling and simulation of magnetic materials, such as magnetic finite element methods (FEM) OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as defined in the additional requirements Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done.
