About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers.
Duties
Perform the full range of operation, maintenance and repair of high-temperature water (HTW) and steam boilers and chillers, including related equipment, within the central Heat/Chill Plants and building dedicated chillers and boilers.
Operate HTW generators to ensure steam and HTW production at adequate quantities, pressures and temperatures.
Operate chillers to ensure chilled water production at adequate quantities, pressures and temperatures.
Operate, maintain, repair and overhaul the Energy Management Control System (EMCS) and control console which monitors the mechanical equipment located in buildings throughout the installation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position must possess a valid driver’s license.
- This position is required to do shift work. Scheduled hours are subject to change with two days’ notice.
- This position is required to assist in keeping all work areas clean.
- This position may require the incumbent to obtain within 24 months of employment a license of at least a third-class stationary engineer or power engineer from a National Institute.
- This position requires a Personnel Security Background Investigation (Tier 1)
- Employee must pass a pre-appointment physical examination and meet established requirements.
- This position requires heavy lifting; however, when lifting items weighing in excess of 40 pounds, incumbent will obtain assistance of others or use mechanical weight handling equipment.
- This position may require employee to wear a respirator. Employee must be able to be medically cleared for respirator use.
- This position may require the incumbent to obtain and maintain an EPA Universal Refrigerant Handlers License.
- This position is subject to call out and after-hours duty for equipment failures or required emergency repairs and storm or disaster recovery.
- This position may require a probationary period.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Utility Systems Repairer-Operator without more than normal supervision. Resumes will be reviewed for experience and/or training which provided skills and knowledge of the following: maintaining, operating and repairing high-temperature water (HTW) and steam boilers and industrial or commercial chillers; Operate auxiliary equipment such as water heaters and pumps, forced- and induced-draft fans, deaerating heater equipment and nitrogen pressurization equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT Handles and carries tools, equipment and testing devices that seldom weigh over 50 pounds. Work is normally performed at sites where most of the equipment can be reached from the floor or ladders. The incumbent may occasionally use platforms, scaffolding, hoists, holders and pulleys in performing the work. The position requires frequent standing, walking and climbing and occasional stooping, bending, kneeling and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
WORKING CONDITIONS Most of the work is performed inside. Occasionally work is performed outside on top of tall buildings and in cramped areas with low overheads. The incumbent is exposed to gas, smoke, ash, scalding water, carbon monoxide poisoning, gas, oil and sulfur fumes and toxic refrigerants. Goggles, respirators, heavy aprons, hard hats, protective gloves, uncomfortable face masks and protective clothing are provided to minimize the adverse conditions and exposure to hazards.
