About the Position:The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance.
Duties
This is a developmental position. If the selection should be at the lower grade level the incumbent will perform duties under closer than normal supervision. Assignments become progressively more difficult until the full performance level is reached.
Use RT methods determine the precise type, magnitude, and orientation of defects such as cracks, porosity, inclusions, incomplete fusion, shrinkage, segregation, incorrect assembly, and other anomalies.
Responsible for processing radiographic film and/or paper for either automated or manual methods of film processing as required.
Using UT methods determines the precise type, magnitude, and orientation of defects such as cracks, inclusions, incomplete fusion, delaminations, and other anomalies.
Perform EC test examinations using single and double absolute coils and self-comparison and external comparison differential coils on aircraft electrically conductive nonmetallic structures and metallic products.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment drug test screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position requires a personnel security background check (Tier 1 – Non-Sensitive, Low Risk).
- Must be willing to undergo a physical examination initially, and annually thereafter.
- Must be willing to travel on Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 5% of the time.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
- This position may be subject to a one-year probationary period.
- At Grade 10, this position requires at least one valid NDT Level I certification and at least 2 Level II certifications in the following: radiographic (RT), Ultrasonic (UT), and Eddy Current (EC) methods of "Non-Destructive Testing" (NDT).
- At all grade levels, this position requires a valid NDT Level II certification in Magnetic Particle (MT), and Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (PT) methods of "Non-Destructive" (NDT) inspection.

Minimum Qualifications WG-09 (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Nondestructive Tester without more than normal supervision. Can interpret and identify indications that are the result of discontinuities such as cracks, pipe, inclusions, nonmetallic stringers or forging bursts; and then accepts or rejects parts in accordance with authorized acceptance criteria; and set up, calibrate, and safely operate fluorescent penetrate inspection equipment such as spray guns, dip tanks, wash booths, dryers, pressure flow meters, optical magnifiers, and other manual and automatic processing equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications WG-10 (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Nondestructive Tester without more than normal supervision. Perform under the guidance of a Level II operator, the trainee is responsible for Radiographic (RT), Ultrasonic (UT), and Eddy Current (EC) method of NDT inspection requiring setup, calibration, and safe operation of test equipment for each area. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications WG-11 (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Nondestructive Tester without more than normal supervision.
Setup and safe operation of both conventional and real time X-ray machines to make RT exposures of aircraft nonmetallic structures and metallic castings, forgings, weldments, other wrought products; and using UT methods determines the precise type, magnitude, and orientation of defects such as cracks, inclusions, incomplete fusion, delamination, and other anomalies. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Selective Placement Factor #1 WG-11: This position requires a valid Non-Destructive Tester (NDT) Level II certification in Magnetic Particle (MT), Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (PT) of Non-Destructive Tester (NDT) inspection and NDT Level II certifications in Radiographic (RT), Ultrasonic (UT), and Eddy Current (EC) methods of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) in order to accomplish the duties of PD AA09324. In accordance with NAS 410 (NAS Certification and Qualification of Nondestructive Test Personnel and CCAD 702-52.
Selective Placement Factor #2 WG-11: Using UT methods determines the precise type, magnitude, and orientation of defects such as cracks, inclusions, incomplete fusion, delaminations, and other anomalies. Responsible for Eddy current (EC) method of NDT requiring setup, calibration, and safe operation of EC test equipment using surface, encircling and inside coils and gap probes with analog and impedance plane display instruments. Responsible for Radiographic (RT) methods of NDT inspection requiring setup and safe operation of both conventional and real time X-ray machines to make RT exposures of aircraft nonmetallic structures and metallic castings, forgings, & weldments.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work in this trade requires the worker to stand, stoop, bend, and reach. The worker will frequently handle items weighing up to 10 pounds and often lift and carry assemblies weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. Eye fatigue occurs from working under black light and viewing radiographs. The worker is required to pass annual vision tests for acuity and color perception.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works is clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated production shop areas. Wears safety shoes, glasses and other protective clothing as required. Exposed to solutions and generally oily parts which may cause dermatitis or allergy conditions. Wears protection clothes as working conditions may warrant. Although working behind appropriate shielding, this worker must operate equipment, which produce ionizing radiation for which some exposure is possible. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this position.
