About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the US Army Medical Command, HQ located in Fort Sam Houston, TX.
Duties
Review data contained in reports of completed investigations, (e.g., Single Scope Background Investigations to determine if sufficient information is available to make a loyalty or suitability judgment.
Conduct security inspections in the areas of information, automation, physical, personnel, and/or operations security.
Provide guidance concerning information and personnel security policies and programs to senior staff.
Applies and ensures compliance with regulatory standards for the protection of classified information.
Reviews and approves Contract Security Classification Specifications for contracts involving classified information to ensure compliance with DoD Industrial Security Regulations.
Serves as the command’s entry point of contact on PERSEC matters.
Ensures the review of material on a continual basis for proper markings and to effect downgrading/declassification actions in compliance with regulations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Two year trial period may be required.
- In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance based on a T5 investigation/Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
- May require temporary duty (TDY) travel up to 10% of the time.
- May be required to work overtime/irregular schedules or extended hours due to exercises, national special security events, or during national security crises.
- This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. The incumbent must obtain the core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within two years.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience equivalent to the GG/GS-11 that prepared you to do this job. Specialize experience is defined and experience administering established Information (INFOSEC) and Personnel Security (PERSEC) programs; AND verifying security clearances. This definition of specialize experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the Federal service (GG/GS-11).
Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.
