You will serve as a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN in the PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTORATE, UTILITIES AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT BRANCH of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.
Duties
You will perform the full range of maintenance and troubleshooting services to the high voltage electrical systems.
You will perform maintenance and inspections to determine condition of electrical utility system components as well as exterior lighting systems for streets, parking areas, and recreational areas.
You will perform tests on the equipment and evaluate the equipment condition to determine if equipment will perform within design criteria.
You will work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and
maintenance and repair manuals to repair existing electrical systems, controls, and equipment.
You will check ground wire connections and cables for cracks, breaks, corrosion and punctures.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Call back after hours and occasional overtime is required.
- A valid state driver's license is required. A CLASS-B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must
be obtained 6 months from the date of hire.
- Required to attend and successfully pass annual confined space entry training.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION such as: 1) Servicing lines, substations, transformers, insulators, converters, regulators, cables, insulators, lightning arresters, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, ground connects, mechanical and electronic control systems and other circuit elements found in substations and/or power-generating facilities, as well as the electrical portions of generators, located above ground and underground; 2) Maintaining, replacing, testing and resetting circuit breakers in switch and substations and vaults; 3) Troubleshooting cable systems to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance, or cable breaks using such common electrical test devices as voltmeter, ohmmeter and megger; 4) Above ground, works on overhead platforms to string overhead wires and set proper wire tension in accordance with strength and weight of wires; 5) On underground lines run wires or cable through tunnels on conduit or lays protected cables in trenches; 6) Troubleshooting distribution circuits and generating and controlling equipment to locate and correct the cause of outages and improper operation; 7) Making emergency cutouts and substations of power line.
