The Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Hospital is recruiting for a Full-Time, Permanent, Dentist - Assistant Chief of Dental Service and reports directly to the Service Chief of Dental.
Duties
The City of Loma Linda is a scenic community located within eyesight of the towering peaks of the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains.
Loma Linda is located approximately 60 miles east of Los Angeles in San Bernardino County. While it is near the highly developed job market of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, it does provide a small town setting for your home, work or recreation. Adjacent to California's Interstate 10 freeway, Loma Linda is freeway close to beaches, mountains and desert resorts.

The duties include but are not limited to:
Clinical Functions:
Under the supervision and direction of the Chief of Dental Service, serves as a practicing dentist; Examine, diagnose, develop treatment plans, and provide a comprehensive range of dental care.
Provide timely, accurate and complete record documentation utilizing the computerized medical record system utilized by the VA, and the computerized and other record systems used by the Dental Clinic.
Provide appropriate consults and referrals to medical and dental specialists.
Ensure that all patients meet the eligibility requirements for dental treatment.
Provide supervision in support of the Service Chief for administrative staff, dental hygienists, dental laboratory technicians, and dental assistants.
Participate in clinical peer review as directed by the Service Chief.
Maintain current certification in BLS and if required ACLS to provide emergency medical management.
Provide clinical training for staff as indicated.
Responsible for managing consults from other services.
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:
Provide supervision of dental staff assigned to their clinic location.
Responsible for clinic administration in compliance with VHA, Medical Center and Dental Service Directives, Policies and Procedures.
Coordinate of patient scheduling to support all dental programs and consult requests.
Coordinate the Dental Supply and equipment orders with Acquisition and Material Management Service as well as the VA Dental supply chain.
Participate in management of the Dental Service Fee Basis Program.
Advise and assist the Chief in determining future budgetary, personnel, equipment and space requirements for the Service.
ECF plan.
OPPE/FPPE responsibilities.
Provider chart review preparations/ VISN chart review coordination.
Dental quality indicator and forecast management.
Clinic grid management.
Clinic data Metric liaison.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. May require rotating call coverage, weekdays, nights, weekends and/or holidays. Daily tour requirements may be as early at 6:15 am - 5:30 pm to facilitate daily schedule management and to attend both facility and National meetings.
Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Dentist Basic Requirements
A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~
Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
