The mission of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) is to provide force protection, security, and law enforcement to safeguard personnel, facilities, infrastructure, and other resources for the Pentagon Reservation and designated DoD facilities (hereinafter referred to as "the Pentagon Facilities") within the National Capital Region (NCR). Positions are located in the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).

Duties

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Plans, organizes and conducts complex Criminal and Administrative investigations involving a wide range of violations. Conducts oral investigative briefings at the highest level of prosecutorial, in-house, and for other management officials to outlining the progress and results of investigations. Analyzing data for evidentiary value, assisting with surveillance and undercover operations. Conducts crime scenes processing for evidence, records crime scene. Plans, directs, and/or participates in undercover "sting" operations to identify principal and dealers in stolen Government property and other criminal activity impacting the Department of Defense.

  • Individuals tentatively selected for drug testing designated positions will be required to submit to urinalysis for illegal drugs prior to appointment and are subjected to random drug testing.
  • Position has been designated as Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance.
  • The incumbent must adhere to DoD Standards of Conduct
  • This position has been designated as "Mission Essential." Incumbent will be required to report to work or remain at, work in closure situations due to adverse conditions, natural disasters, or other emergency situations, unless otherwise directed.
  • Position may require travel extensively outside the continental United States in combat zones as well as outside of the assigned office commuting area to conduct investigations, attend training and conferences.
  • Position requires constant state of physical readiness, and must be capable of demonstrating maximum physical exertion without warning.
  • The incumbent must meet requirements of "Lautenberg Agreement" which outlines rules regarding possessing and carrying of firearms. Candidates who have been convicted of a felony or crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • The position is covered by the law enforcement officer retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. § 8336(c) and 5 U.S.C. §  8412(d). The maximum entry age for positions covered under the special Law Enforcement Officer retirement is 37 years old.
  • This position is covered by the PFPA Civilian Mobility Program. Candidates selected for this position must sign a mobility agreement as a condition of employment. PFPA may relocated covered positions between PFPA duty locations.
  • Retention in this position is contingent upon successful completion of all agency training requirements.
  • The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from the jurisdiction from where he or she resides.
  • This position requires you take and pass annual medical and physical fitness examinations.
  • The position requires successful completion of a Physical Ability Test (PAT).
  • This position requires you to qualify monthly, quarterly, and/or bi-annually, as applicable, with assigned weapon(s).
  • This position requires you to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) i.e., ballistic vests, etc.
  • This position falls under the Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) Act. Incumbent is required to work an additional 2 hours per day (10-hour workday) in order to receive the 25% Availability Pay allowance as this Act specifies.

Qualifications

Time in Grade: For entry at the GS-11 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-9 or higher grade in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-9 if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:Specialized experience is defined as: experience conducting interviews and interrogations, working as part of a team to react to a variety of threats, writing investigative or incident reports and conducting investigations. Time in Grade: For entry at the GS-12 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-11 or higher grade in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-11 if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: experience conducting investigations and preparing investigation reports, providing briefings and summaries of investigative finding, and serving as a member of a protective formation. Time in Grade: For entry at the GS-13 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-12 or higher grade in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-12 if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: experience planning, organizing, and conducting investigations, providing reports at multiple stages including the final report to officials, experience processing crime scenes, and conducting interviews and interrogations. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements, qualified applicants must also possess the quality of experience as it relates to how closely or to what extent an applicant's background, recency of experience, education, and training are relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the announced position. Candidates must clearly demonstrate the possession of competencies necessary to successfully perform the work of the position at the appropriate level to be qualified for the position. Education

GS-11 Substitution of Education for Experience: Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply.

Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply.

There is no substitution of education for the specialized experience at the GS-12/13 grade level.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study

To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. You must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education .

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services at the time of application.
