Duties
You will be responsible for: Visitor use, Interpretation, Recreation Planning Support and Facility Maintenance.
Knowledge of agency policies, objectives, and operating methods related to the functional area(s) of assignment. General knowledge of agency policies, objectives, and operating methods as they relate to the total activities of the park.
Administer operations, such as day-to-day operation of a recreation site, which requires independence in making decisions and judgments.
Make surveys to locate or collect various types of information such as soil erosion, deer transects and water or air quality.
Carry out resource management or protection work such as evaluation of resource conditions or enforcement of use requirements.
Subject matter knowledge of programs, natural or cultural history, fish or wildlife habitat characteristics, techniques of resource protection and
use, recreational use of Federal lands.

Qualifications

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: park guide, tour or interpretive guide; forestry work in a park, recreation or conservation area; applying policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; assisting in the planning of day to day operation of a recreation area providing such facilities as camping, river operations, water sports, or coordinating routine activities with maintenance personnel; advising visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, proper, and authorized uses of recreational facilities .

Education: One full academic year of graduate level education in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

S.A.A.: earned a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement in a course of study that directly reflects the job-related competencies necessary to satisfy the minimum qualifications and perform the duties of the position. S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The job requires physical effort such as walking, climbing, crouching, bending, crawling, and stooping, for nearly all duties. Lifting, carrying, and loading equipment, tools, materials, etc., is necessary to perform the work. Items may be bulky and heavy (up to 100 lbs.) or awkward to carry such as posts and poles. There is danger of cuts from sharp tools, extreme weather conditions, and noise and vibration from operating mowing machines. Operates U.S. Government vehicles off highway, as well as, other recreational vehicles.
Work Environment: The work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living skills for upwards of two weeks in duration. Work may involve early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working holidays. Must be able to possess a valid driver's license and operate government vehicles and equipment. Work will be accomplished using various modes of transportation including two and four-wheel drive vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, mountain bikes, horseback, snow machines, etc.
This is a permanent LONG-TERM CAREER SEASONAL position (6 to 11-1/2 months) per year. You will be in pay status for at least 6 months, but less than 12 months per calendar year. When work and/or funds are unavailable, you will be placed into non-pay status. Pay status may be less than 6 months during initial appointment.
