Duties

Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to perform technical work in supporting the quantitative aspects of the USAF Technical Training Pipeline flow for initial/skill progression training. Duties: Receives and analyzes out-of-cycle training change requests from MAJCOMs and government agencies, validates requirements and allocates quotas. when change can be satisfied within the existing schedules. Applies knowledge of applicable automated information systems (AIS) operating procedures as well as the AETC A2/A3 course programming policies including the many rules and exceptions for all formal training courses. Receives Trained Personnel Requirements (TPR) for Officer and Airmen career specialties and performs applicable tasks within AIS for all formal training courses. Maintains constant liaison with the training managers regarding the programming of new courses and revisions to existing courses. Accomplishes special projects and additional duties as assigned.

  • Must possess tact and superior judgment in communicating orally and in writing with military and civilian personnel, often high ranking at HQ USAF, MAJCOMs, HQ AETC, Technical Training Wings and other government agencies.
  • Travel by military and/or commercial aircraft may be required in providing staff assistance to subordinate activities and/or attending conferences and workshops.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, for the GS-1702, Education and Training Technician Series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR NON-FEDERAL APPLICANTS (EXTERNAL): I have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the federal service or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: 1) knowledge of USAF and AETC organizational structure and familiarity with that of Air Force elements, other service and joint/unified commands; 2) comprehensive knowledge of Air Force and AETC policies, training regulations, and ability to interpret directives within short-time constraints to provide answers to inquiries received; 3) knowledge of Air Force training AISs operating procedures and 2 AF/TOC course programming policies including rules and exceptions, to effectively manage the distribution of class allocations. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR CURRENT GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of training administration, policies, and procedures. 2. Knowledge of training resources programs, principles, and policies. 3. Knowledge of AF AISs, which support the technical training pipeline. 4. Knowledge of other services AISs, which support the technical training pipeline. 5. Ability to work harmoniously with all levels of personnel within the component. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. 6. Ability to analyze problems and to develop timely solutions. Skill in accomplishing special training studies and projects. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
