This position is located within the Albuquerque Area Indian Health Service which there may not be immediate vacancies at all duty station locations. This position reports to the assigned department and is under the supervision of the facility's department supervisor or manager. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of technical and clerical support in the day-to-day operation of the service unit's Purchased Referred Care program or department.
Duties
Provides Purchased Referred Care (PRC) program assistance and support services.
Provides quality customer service to internal and external contacts.
Performs a variety of clerical duties.
Prepares and organizes correspondence in proper format.
Disseminates correspondence and packages to internal and external contacts.
Interviews patient(s) to obtain important patient demographic information and assist in completing forms.
Determines and verifies patient eligibility for Purchased Referred Care (PRC) program.
Prepares medical authorizations and purchase orders.
Maintains current balances and reconciles accounts regularly including unpaid claims.
Assists with researching and resolving pending claims.
Maintains confidentiality and non-disclosure of medical information.
Maintains electronic medical records and files.
Maintains an appointment calendar.
Attends and participates in service unit and department briefings and trainings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-04:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position at the GS-4 level. -OR-
Two (2) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. -OR-
Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify an applicant for GS-4 grade level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-05:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: greeting visitors, assisting customers, supplying forms, maintaining calendars for appointments, preparing and organizing correspondence materials in proper format, and disseminating correspondence information or packages internally and externally. -OR-
Four (4) years of education above the high school level. -OR-
Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-06:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: experience working in a team-oriented healthcare environment; Coordinating department activities, scheduling and resolving conflicting appointments, transcribing patient medical records and filing, inventory and supplies management, utilizing registration and financial systems, providing customer-focused support services, and managing incoming or outgoing correspondence.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
