You will serve as a Materials Engineer in the Naval Sea Logistics Center of NAVSEALOGCENKYPTDIVNUWC MECH PA.

Duties

You will have the technical authority to prevent and resolve problems with the design manufacture, production, procurement, inspection, and installation of Level I/SUBSAFE and Deep Submergence Scope of Certification Stock Programs Material. You will assist a team of functional, technical, and support personnel responsible for planning and managing engineering/technical assignments and assisting in the formulation of technical/administrative policies/procedures including implementation. You will conduct engineering/technical reviews and analyses and direct technical personnel in preparing technical packages for solicitations. You will review and approve complete contractor engineering drawing sets addressing configuration, construction, operating pressures and temperatures, materials, finishes, and tolerances. You will review class II Engineering Change Proposals with recommendation for approval to the applicable Technical Warrant Holder. You will serve as a senior engineer within a team providing guidance and direction to accomplish engineering and administrative tasks. You will prepare engineering reports requiring intensive technical writing to document engineering rationale for the adjudication of material. You will take ownership of workflow processes and develop/maintain documentation to control the processes. You will represent NSLC at meetings/conferences with the purpose of resolving complex technical problems and presenting complex technical information. You will review and approve chemical, mechanical, and non-destructive test reports. You will review and approve weld procedures, weld/forging sketches, and weld qualification data. You will mentor junior engineering staff. You will support internal and external audits to verify compliance to requirements.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer analyzing the test and evaluation program for submarine parts to ensure compliance with regulation. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
