You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Deck/Structural/Piping (Code 962B), Planning Branch (Code 962), Production Control/Planning Division (Code 960), Production Department (Code 900), Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) of MID ATLANTIC REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CTR.

Duties

You will develop plans and sketches to prepare definitive Formal Work Procedures (FWP), Controlled Work Packages (CWP), create work specifications and estimates of man-hours and material requirements for assigned work. You will plan step-by-step work procedures for production ship; designate lead and assist work centers; shop man-hours, and equipment resources required. You will determine material and obtain material quotes for the purpose of procurement. You will plan and establish overall layouts, drafts, sketches and drawings, applying and computing tolerances, dimensions, clearances, fits, sizes, or other design aspects as required. You will evaluate quality and adequacy of materials, workmanship, procedures, and processes utilized. You will plan work assignments based on priorities, difficulty and requirements of assignments to ensure established milestones are met. You will schedule ship, craft and equipment inspections as required.

  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience implementing the knowledge of naval engineering principles and production methods involved in ship repair and overhaul, industrial scheduling, labor forecasting, use of standardized estimating procedures for production and material costs. Experience implementing the knowledge of systems and equipment on board U.S. Navy ships and craft, and the processes and procedures for their troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and overhaul. Experience analyzing procedures and methods, writing detailed work procedures, preparing written reports, conducting technical studies and developing sound recommendations. Experience reading and interpreting manufacturer's drawings, blueprints or specifications and developing sketches and drawings when necessary. Experience ordering parts and materials with the federal supply system and knowledge and experience acquiring vendor sources and quotes to support materials requirements for purchase other than the stock system. Experience using inspection methods, techniques and practices of ship repair and specific technical knowledge of deck machinery, piping, davits, ladders and Structural repairs on board Navy vessels. Experience communicating both orally and in writing.
