About the Position: Located at Fort Hamilton in southern New York City, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, at the base of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. 20 minutes to mid-town Manhattan. Fort Hamilton is home to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Recruiting Battalion; and MEPS. Commuter buses and trains are readily accessible from this location.

Duties

Serve as a Shift Leader who is an assistant to the Guard Shift Supervisor. Make daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures. Serve as the initial point of contact for the installation’s visitors which may include foreign nationals, government agents, elective officials, media and Very Important Persons (VIP). Operate and perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • The incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle requiring the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (Lautenberg Amendment) which bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, incumbent is required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime, and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • In accordance with (IAW) Army Regulation (AR) 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
  • The incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • The incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • The incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56.
  • The incumbent must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform in accordance with AR 190-56, maintaining a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability requiring incumbent to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield, and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • This position has been designated as Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and must know First Aid. The incumbent may act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques.
