Duties

This position starts at a salary of $122,198.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $158,860.00 (GS-14, Step 10). Salary: Salary listed reflects the rest of U.S. scale and, if applicable, will be adjusted to meet the locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection. While serving as a Supervisory Physical Scientist, your duties will include: Serving as the first and/or second line regional supervisor for multiple Forward Operating Laboratories (FOLs) field laboratory and managing the full range of operations collectively of these locations; Providing continuity, assistance, and guidance to laboratory personnel in support of front-line operations; Aiding in the development of programs and pursue new initiatives and opportunities to meet current customers' needs; Developing comprehensive short and long-range strategies to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of the laboratory's product and services to meet customer's needs and predict future expectations; and Developing liaisons and cooperative relationships with and coordinated support to DHS/CBP operational components and others

Basic Requirement: You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirement listed above and possess the experience or substitution of education, if applicable, as described below: A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in "A" above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Overseeing personnel actions, to include performance, recommendation for recognition, corrective actions, training, and overall technical and administrative operations; Obtaining resources and identifying strategic objectives for the organization to include work requirements and milestones; Maintaining a high level of awareness for current operational trends and advising on technical, management, budgetary, human resource, and union issues; Developing and implementing systems, policies and programs designed to accomplish goals; and Providing expert advice on technical and operational issues that result from chemical and physical scientific testing and analysis NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 08/19/2024.
