The primary purpose of this position is to serves as the primary Electrician responsible for the installation and maintenance of Fire Alarm Control Panels, Fire Detection Devices, Central Monitoring Control Systems (Monaco D-21), Mass Notification Systems and associated electric/electronic devices and components.

Duties

Plans and lays out work from electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical orders Performs a full-range of duties pertinent to the deployment, maintenance, and modification of the Fire Alarm Control Panels, Fire Detection Devices, Central Monitoring Control Systems (Monaco D-21), Mass Notification Systems and their associated electric/electronic devices and components Participates in the establishment and implementation of expanded or extended use of the complete Fire Detection System and Central Monitoring and Control Systems Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment

  • Employee will be required to obtain a government travel card
  • Must successfully complete applicable computer-based training for the Central Monitoring and Control Systems (Monaco D-21)
  • May be required to work rotating shifts or uncommon tours of duty
  • Subject to call back to meet emergency situations. Emergency overtime and serving in "on call" status in evenings and weekends may be required
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program
  • Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions
  • IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate certifications and successfully complete all trainings related to Fire Alarm Control Panels, Fire Detection Devices, Central Monitoring Control Systems (Monaco D-21)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate certifications and successfully complete all trainings related to Mass Notification Systems within 3 years from the date of appointment

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an Electrician (Alarm System Tech) without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and theories of the complete Fire Alarm Detection Systems and the standard practices, methods, and techniques of the occupation sufficient to perform standard and difficult assignments Knowledge of evaluation, fact-finding, and investigative techniques in order to gather data, identify significant factors, and recommend a solution from a number of possible alternatives. Knowledge of the occupation to perform studies and prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence to communicate factual and procedural information clearly. Skill in applying the principles, concepts, and practices of the occupation sufficient to perform moderately difficult assignments. Skill in using and maintaining hand tools such as, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, cable pullers, drills, soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers and management Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams and to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment without more than normal supervision. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams and to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment without more than normal supervision. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee typically works in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in high and restricted places, under conditions of heat and cold outside in inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder, and cuts and bruises. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
