The Electrician position is in the Electric Shop, Facilities Management Service (FMS) and works under the direct supervision of the Electric Shop Supervisor. The position involves maintaining, installing, modifying, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical systems and electrical, office and environmental management equipment within the Chillicothe VA Medical Center and 6 offsite Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC).

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Maintaining, installing, modifying, repairing, troubleshooting (tracing and locating defects), loading, and testing emergency power systems to include generators and Automatic Transfer Switches. Maintaining, installing, troubleshooting, modifying, and repairing, transformers, Pad Mount Switch Gear, new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment. Troubleshooting and repairing all electrical distribution and control systems in the boiler heating plant with various interconnected circuits that control the operation of the boiler. Troubleshooting, modifying, and repairing motor control and remote telemetry monitor systems for the submersible well pumps and associated equipment utilized for water treatment. Performing a wide range of tests/checks relating to electrical safety and equipment operation. Installing, modifying, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining systems such as, street light systems and essential electrical systems. Performing a wide range of tests, installations, repairs, and maintenance on complete systems such as fire alarm, communications systems, intrusion alarm systems, electronic safety devices (medical bed alarms, lifts, mental health safety devices), various electronic door locking systems, networking cables (Cat 6 and fiber terminations), telecom circuits and nurse call systems. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Compressed tour available. Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD92261-A Physical Requirements: Incumbent is required to work from ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Work requires standing, reaching, bending, climbing, and stooping, as the work site dictates. May work above ground level and/or in confined spaces. Required to lift, carry, and set up tools, equipment, and parts necessary to the job.

Qualifications

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Electrical Equipment Technical Practices Electric Drawings Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Troubleshooting (Electrical) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
