The Senior Social Worker provides clinical psychosocial services at an advanced practice level to eligible veterans and their family members. Veteran patients are primarily from the Chillicothe and Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) catchment areas and services are provided at the assigned site (Lancaster CBOC). Psychosocial problems and needs are complex and require collaboration and the ability to practice independently regardless of location.

Duties included but not limited to: Clinical Responsibilities (90% of the time) - General duties include, but are not limited to, assessment and referral services; design and preparation of diagnostic assessments; providing entry-level services for Veterans of all service eras; formulating and providing individual and group treatments; preparing initial and updated treatment plans; and planning for follow-up care after completion of treatment. The incumbent provides ethical individual, group and family mental health services to eligible combat and non-combat Veterans experiencing mental health symptoms. Adheres to Trauma Informed Care principles assuming the existence of a trauma history along with resilience. Utilizes Measurement Based Care. Duties include, but are not limited to, a full range of psychodiagnostics services including psychosocial assessment, and using the most appropriate evidence-based psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care in the delivery of a full range of psychosocial and multidisciplinary services in the outpatient programs. May participate in Tele-mental-health or similar activities in order to provide service for Veterans who are located a prohibitive distance from VA facilities. For all clinical duties, the incumbent works in the Primary Care Line (PCL) and works closely with the Mental Health Careline (MHCL). The incumbent participates in interdisciplinary team meetings for Veterans enrolled in Outpatient Mental Health Services. They interface within Primary Care and provide consultation services to medical center and CBOC staff on a wide variety of patient care issues, particularly related to identifying mental health concerns and social determinant needs of Veterans from all eras of service. The incumbent provides one or more evidence-based therapies, including. but not limited to: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Depression (ACT);Behavioral Couples Therapy for SUD (BCT-SUD);Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression (CBT-D);Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET);Social Skills Training (SST). Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: You must be a citizen of the United States English Language Proficiency - You must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) Education and/or Experience Combination -You must possess a master's degree in Social Work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. Note: A doctoral degree in Social Work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree in Social Work. License or Certification - You must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates: Senior Social Worker GS-0185-12 Experience. You must possess at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to: assessing and documenting identified behaviors or symptoms of abuse, neglect, exploitation and/or intimate partner violence; use of clinical social work skills; maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality per policies, handbooks or directives; acting as an advocate with appropriate community service providers and agencies when it serves the best interest of the patient and family members/caregiver; independently assessing the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members, identifying the patient's strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and psychosocial acuity. Applicable experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills. Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the service delivery area. Physical Requirements: The work comprises both sedentary and physical components, such as walking long distances, lifting, carrying or moving small, weighted objects. The work may require using appropriate techniques to physically restrain clients who present a danger to self or others. Specific vision abilities required by this job include, but are not limited to, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employee is required to be able to pass a physical examination clearing them to be able to drive a government vehicle and carry the designation of incidental driver.
