About the Position: Serve as a working member of the power plant electrical maintenance crew leading the work of craftsman and trainees engaged in the installation, modification, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical equipment.

Duties

Establish priorities, set sequence of operations, and determine staff, equipment, and materials needed to handle probable workload. Act as temporary power plant Maintenance Manager in the absence of plant supervision. Serves as Electrical point of contact for Electrical portion of Power Review. Test electrical equipment to ensure that the preventive and operating maintenance program meets established standards.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs and require a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to pass pre-employment and regular physical screenings to determine fitness for duty.

I can organize and participate in the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of electrical power control equipment, distribution lines, or electric-generating equipment at hydroelectric power plant, steam generating plant, nuclear plant, or commercial heavy industrial plant. In addition, I have the ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain power distribution circuits, control systems, communication systems, and high voltage heavy duty generating and distribution systems. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WORKING CONDITIONS- Work is primarily inside and subject to electrical hazard when working around high voltage equipment. Work such as in the switch yard is outside and subject to weather conditions.Sometimes incumbent works in damp, cramped quarters and is subject to constant noise from continuous operating machinery. Occasionally incumbent climbs and works from ladders and scaffolds.
