You will serve as an AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the FACILITIES DIVISION, OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION of UNIF SRVS UNI OF THE HLTH SCI.

Duties

You will install, maintain, modify, and repair special purpose HVAC/R systems that are frequently modified to provide specific and critical climatic conditions in laboratories, special purpose facilities, and offices. You will modify and balance various elements of these systems that are designed to meet a variety of commercial and industrial HVAC/ R systems which perform filtering, refrigeration, and circulation, in a wide variety of structures and areas. You will maintain and repair all components of systems including compressors, air handlers, electric motors, pneumatics, DDC's, electric controls, evaporators, humidifiers, refrigerated air drivers, pumps, and refrigerated chillers. You will dismantle components, visually inspect, test circuits, and parts, and repair or replace malfunctioning elements. You will reassemble components, reconnect to system, start up, and test. You will balance and set controls to provide the required conditions. You will install, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and/or manually operated components and equipment associated with the operation of large-scale HVAC/R systems. You will install, repair, and modify pipes and ducts to redirect or provide air to areas with new requirements. You will provide maintenance and repair or replacement of electrical wiring and lighting fixtures, burned out florescent tubes, and high temperature piping systems to provide hot and cold water in the Biohazard Suite. You will provide maintenance and repair or replacement of gas and vacuum lines, test pipes to determine PSI and detect any leaks. You will maintain and repair sinks, toilets, hoods, and HVAC systems to maintain proper pressure in the Biohazard Suite.

  • You will be required to lift and carry parts, tools, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Work requires walking, standing, stooping, climbing, and working in cramped conditions and climbing ladders and scaffolding.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the job of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision including: 1) Installing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting systems components and refrigerant controls; 2) Diagnosing malfunctions and making repairs to systems such as analog and direct digital control (DDC) systems; and 3) Follows all guidelines and procedures in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.
