About the Position: The incumbent will serve as an Electrical Industrial Controls Mechanic at the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) in Fort Riley, KS.

Duties

Performs services on the Utilities Monitoring and Controls System (UMCS) for monitoring and controlling HVAC, fire/life, safety, security, energy, and utility systems in a variety of facilities. Conduct scheduled maintenance and troubleshooting tasks such as tightening contacts and connections and replacing fuses, resistors, and analog boards as needed. Use a line analyzer to measure voltage settings on analog boards; use a decade box (resistance simulator) to check sensors and calibrate analog boards; and use a digital VOM fluke to adjust voltage within 1/10,0000th of a volt on analog boards. Operate hand-held H2T test simulator or laptop computer on Field Processing Units to bypass keyboard controls while in field to adjust or alter set points and use a Field Loading Device 101 or laptop computer to replace software programs. Enter facility schematics of system locations which provide a graphic representation for identifying a problem source. Use mnemonic codes for calling up field data points and enter values and status elements that establish the parameters or command the UMCS to monitor each field data point.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires that you possess and maintain a valid unrestricted stateside driver's license.
  • This position requires that you undergo a pre-placement and annual medical examination.
  • This position has a lifting requirement of up to 40lbs.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

I work under supervision of a journey-level employee who review my work for completion. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above. Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed inside but the employee may occasionally be required to work outside and in drafty attic spaces and cramped areas with low overheads or sudden temperature changes during maintenance or troubleshooting UMCS.
