The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical expertise to maintain and certify Radar, Airfield and Weather Systems (RAWS).
Duties
Install, modify, test, repair, overhaul, calibrate, maintain, evaluate and certify performance of complex integrated and interfacing electronic systems.
Participate in the installation, modification, and final testing of all newly installed Radar, Airfield and Weather Systems (RAWS).
Perform corrective maintenance by diagnosing, isolating, and repairing complex system(s)/subsystem(s) malfunctions to restore services with a minimum delay.
Provide technical guidance, training, and assistance to other technicians and conducts on-the-job (OJT) training to apprentices in all phases of work.
Follow federal and state rules when storing, using, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards.

- Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid
- Must be qualified to drive government motor vehicles and qualify for flightline driving qualification

- Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors. Use of both arms and legs is required.
- Indoor and outdoor work at equipment sites requires frequent walking, kneeling, bending, prolonged standing, working in strained and uncomfortable positions, and lifting/carrying moderate (15-44 lbs.)
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification after entrance on duty
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete an annual occupational exam and the wear of prescribed aural protection device
- Disclosure of Political Appointments is required
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
- Outdoor work sometimes performed in inclement weather or limited light conditions
- Requires recurring training to update knowledge of systems and procedures. Requires knowledge of procedures for storage and handling of hazardous materials
- Must be able to wear prescribed aural protection device
- Potential exists for injuries such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical or RF energy and soldering equipment
- Climbing of towers and ladders while using safety-climbing devices is required
- Subject to shift work, overtime, telephone and pager standby (on-call) and may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for Individual Occupational Requirementsfor Electronics Technician series and Group Standard for Group Standard for Technical and Medical Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level (or equivalent) in federal service which may have been gained while performing work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of electronic equipment and practical knowledge that included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions and assisting in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions and assisting with the installation, modification, and final testing of Radar, Airfield and Weather Systems (RAWS).

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. Skill and knowledge of wide range of electronic principles and practices Tactical Air Navigation System (AN/FRN- 45 TACAN) or equivalent, Instrument Landing System, (AN/GRN-29 ILS), Localizer, (AN/GRN-30 LOC), Null Reference and Capture Effect Glide Slopes, (AN/GRN-31 GS); Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS-AN/FSQ-204); Flight Data Input/Output Remote (FDIOR), FMQ19 Weather Suite, includes Temperature/Dew Point Measuring Set, Digital Wind Measuring Set, Laser Cloud Height Ceilometer, Digital Barometer/Altimeter System Indicator, Aneroid Barometer, Runway Visual Range, Rain/Snow Measurement Set, and other meteorological equipment; UHF and VHF transceivers (AN/GRC171), (AN/GRC211), Ground to Air Transmitter/Receiver (GATR) or equivalent, VHF and UHF transmitters (AN/GRT-21), (AN/GRT-22); VHF and UHF receivers (AN/GRR-23), (AN/GRR24) UHF/VHF Antenna couplers (CU- 547), (CU-2274); Terminal Advisory Service (TAS), Digital Audio Legal Recorder (DALR) or equivalent, Air Traffic Control (ATC) communications systems, FSC-127 Enhanced Telephone Voice Switch (ETVS) or equivalent, Voice Switching and Control System (VSCS), Light Guns, associated support equipment, and any systems purchased to replace the aforementioned equipment.
2. Knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices, operating parameters, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems associated with air traffic control and weather radar equipment; and of systems and component design, capabilities, configurations, limitations, and functional operation; and of various types of electronics logic.
3. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices.
4. Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems; in analyzing problems in integrated/interfacing systems involving numerous complex circuits; and in using complex electronic and electromechanical test and measuring equipment using integrated test functions for different purposes.
5. Ability to modify standard procedures, adapt equipment or techniques, and make departures from previous approaches to solve technical problems or improve system performance for highly complex electronic systems; to trace electronics logic from one system to another; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships to represent the organization in a professional manner.
6. Ability to use computer terminals to enter and extract data to maintain records and document actions and knowledge of computer operating systems programs, e.g. Unix, Linux, Sun Solaris; network types; network topologies; transport devices e.g. hubs, routers, switches; and data communications equipment.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is a Mission Essential (ME)position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
Physical Demand:
Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing or similar activities; recurring lifting of light to moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds; and/or regular visits to outdoor sites.
Work Environment:
Work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks and discomforts, such as dust, strong odors, or fumes from fuels, chemicals, or engine exhaust; high levels of noise and vibration, dust, grease, electrical hazards, uncovered moving parts of machinery, moving machinery; or outdoor conditions involving moderate exposure to rain, cold/hot weather, icy streams, and rivers. The work environment requires the employee to stay alert continually and to take special safety precautions including wearing special protective items of clothing.
