Duties
Assist in the preservation and care of museum collections and the historic structures of the park.
Performs research to identify museum objects, responds to related research requests, identifies needs for restoration and preservation of objects, and writes related project proposals to obtain funding for identified long-term conservation needs.
Maintains museum protection standards including environmental, fire, and security monitoring systems, and integrated pest management, applied in museum settings.
Knowledge of methods used in museum cataloging, record keeping and data management for collections accountability and documentation.
Maintains liaison and effective working relations with related groups and individuals, agencies and the public.
Physical Demands: The work requires mental alertness, better than average manual dexterity, and mobility. Although primarily sedentary, inspections and operations evaluations involve activities demanding a certain amount of exertion such as walking, climbing, crawling, lifting of heavy objects, bending, stooping, and reaching. Working with collections can involve prolonged exposure to hazardous materials and equipment.
Working with lighting systems environmental control systems, and alarm systems can involve exposure to electrical current and the use or power tools with attendant physical hazards.
Working Conditions: Most of the work is performed in an office and storage or laboratory facility. Frequent visits are made to the library, vistor centers and other museum areas in the park. Some travel to other facilities and museums, as well as, to training and professional meetings is required.

Ozark National Scenic Riverways is located in the heart of the Ozark Highlands of Missouri, in the southeastern portion of the state on the Current and Jack's Fork Rivers. The park features 134 miles of crystal clear, spring-fed rivers that are flanked by scenic bluffs, low mountains, and numerous springs and caves. Recreational opportunities abound and include kayaking, "tubing", fishing, hunting, and swimming. Hiking and mountain biking trails are plentiful in the area.
The duty station for this position is at Park Headquarters in Van Buren, Missouri. Limited shopping, medical, and dental are available. For more shopping, medical, dental, and entertainment Popular Bluff and West Plains, Missouri are approximately 40 miles from Van Buren. Summers are warm and humid and winters are normally mild. Major attractions are located in St. Louis, Springfield, and Memphis two and half to three hours away.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/23/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. This position includes subject-matter specialization in the area of history. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two full years of graduate study leading to a master's or equivalent degree in one of the following fields: history, art, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled. (Two years of graduate education is 36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours) or your score may be lowered.. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have six months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and (27 semester hours or 41 quarter hours) of directly related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). To combine education and experience, first take the number of of completed graduate education divided by 36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours). Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
