THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This position is for a Aircraft Mechanic, Position Description Number D1366000, located within a National Guard Aircraft Maintenance Organization located in Garden City, Georgia. This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, dual status position which requires Georgia Air National Guard Membership. Area of Consideration: Current members of the Air National Guard.

Duties

As an Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-10, you will: Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, postflight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections such as fuel contamination, emergency equipment, and oil sampling. Inspect and perform functional checks such as landing gear retraction and operation checks on hydraulic, electrical, pressurization, lubrication, de-icing, vacuum, induction, and exhaust systems. Troubleshoot and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft, utilizing various gauges, meters, measuring devices and other related test equipment. Remove and replace aircraft components such as control surfaces, engines, constant speed drive, engine mounted gear boxes, wing fuel tanks or cells, landing gear mechanisms, wheels, brakes and tires. Service oil, fluid, fuel, hydraulic, and oxygen systems. Adjust and maintain installed equipment such as tow targets, hydraulic reels, and drive assemblies. Perform user and organizational level maintenance on assigned support equipment, including inspection, repair, modification, and corrosion prevention. Instruct, direct, and assign maintenance repair tasks to drill status guard members. Complies with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations such as MEI, ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility and command support exercises. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state drivers license.
  • Preplacement Medical Requirements: Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the expense of the government, prior to beginning employment. Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.

Military Grades: Unspecified Compatible Military Assignments: Unspecified General Experience: Must possess experience that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. Specialized Experience: Candidate must have 18 months specialized experience installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. Physical Effort: Requires moderate physical exertion when climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Routinely required to objects weighing up to 20 pounds, occasionally may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Works indoors and outdoors in inclement weather on icy, wet, hot, and slippery ramps; aircraft surfaces, work stands, and ladders; and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, dust, dirt, grease, lubricants, points, solvents, high pressure air and fluids; fast actuating aircraft surfaces such as speed brakes, flaps, and landing gear; engine noise, heat blast, and intake suction; rotating propellers; explosive munitions; electrical voltage; cartridge actuating devices; liquid oxygen; fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, etc. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, burns, shock, strains and broken bones.
