The National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC) is a major organizational unit of the Wildlife Services (WS) Program charged with research in wildlife management problems both in the United States and overseas. The NWRC has a staff of research scientists and other employees who are engaged in basic, applied, and developmental research on wildlife management problems to protect agricultural and natural resources from depredation by wildlife.
Duties
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Plan and carry out projects for collecting qualitative and quantitative social science data to address social factors for the mission of feral swine damage and nonlethal predator damage management.
Plan and Prepare quantitative and qualitative analysis of social science data.
Plan and prepare interpretative reports and publications resulting from the analyses of social science data.
Conduct analysis in human-wildlife conflicts using social science concepts, principles, practices, and methodology.
Collaborate with NWRC researchers in the conduct of human dimensions research and data analyses.
Use statistical software to conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses and use qualitative analysis software to analyze qualitative data.
Conceptualize, organize, and create presentations to NWRC researchers, WS personnel, and stakeholders to disseminate research findings and activities.
Collect and read pertinent scientific literature with bearing upon research studies; glean concepts, methods, and relevant procedures for use in research.
Compose text explaining the conduct of project research, as well as results and discussion of findings, for the preparation of technical reports and refereed manuscripts.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to the basic requirement applicants must also possess:
FOR THE GS-11 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-09 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Experience designing mail and Internet-based survey studies in a wildlife management context.
Experience analyzing quantitative survey data using statistical software, such as SPSS.
Experience designing qualitative research studies in a wildlife management context and collecting qualitative data through interviews.
Experience analyzing qualitative study data using qualitative analysis software, such as NVivo.
Experience communicating social science findings related to wildlife management in reports and peer-reviewed scientific journals.
OR
Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level.
TRANSCRIPTS are required if:
This position requires specific coursework or a degree in a specific field to be basically qualified.
This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-11 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
