This position is located in the Clinical Trials Research and Statistics Branch (CTRSB), Office of Biostatistics Research (OBR), Division of Clinical Research (DCR), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Duties
If you are selected for this position, you will perform the following:
Provide scientific oversight, support, and assistance for database operations and applications, using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) database management tools and utilities to assist with monitoring, optimizing, and managing assigned databases, including clinical and laboratory databases; maintains database operations, adding new elements to the databases as directed, and creates reports in response to requirements;
Develop, monitor, and maintain database management system environments and objects, such as tables, indexes, and views and assists with backup, restoration, reorganization, and recovery work on the databases and associated files; and assists higher-graded specialists in troubleshooting problems and identifying solutions to return database systems to normal operations.
Facilitate communication and collaborative efforts with other Institute components, other ICs, and other HHS agencies in assigned area of responsibility; and establishes and maintains effective collaborative and working relationships with other government agencies and academic and other research institutions and organizations as needed on collaborative research projects.
Advise on laboratory and clinical trial data collection/analyses and formulation of appropriate research questions. Leads data management activities of clinical trial design and implementation in collaboration with clinicians, researchers, and biostatisticians. Oversees and manages day-to-day operations related to data management and associated logistics of ongoing clinical trials, ensuring quality and security of data capture, transfer, and documentation.
Promote translational research using data science methods that support the evolving needs of CTRS. Bridges the communications between laboratory scientists, clinicians, biostatisticians, and computer scientists/IT specialists to ensure project cohesion, by transforming scientific ideas into statistical models, formulating hypothesis and designing experiments/trials, constructing data input, interpreting statistical inferences, and facilitating feedback and discussions across different disciplines.

Qualifications
You qualify for the Clinical Research Specialist (Data Science) GS 0601-13 level; you must meet the following qualification requirements:
Education:
You must have a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).
Additional Qualifications:
You must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning and managing the development and implementation of data solutions and technologies to support clinical research programs; utilizing data science concepts and techniques to develop data collection and analysis procedures; collaborating with other organizations on data science aspects of clinical research projects; and advising on data science methods in the design, management, and regulation of clinical studies.
