This position is located at the Crow Service Unit, Pryor Clinic, Pryor, MT and reports to the Supervisory Dentist for the Crow Service Unit. The incumbent supervises dental assistants and provides comprehensive care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients primarily at the Pryor clinic, and other locations as needed, such as schools and clinics within Crow Service Unit.
A housing stipend of up to $778.38 without dependents or $936 with dependents may be available per pay period.
Duties
Makes clinical and radiographic examinations of the oral hard and soft tissues, and a diagnosis of pathological or irregular conditions.
Reviews patient medical history and chart for evidence of disease or abnormalities which could adversely affected by dental treatment.
Studies results of examination and determines types of services required and develops an acceptable treatment plan.
Performs endodontic, prosthodontic, periodontic, pedodontic, operative, oral surgery and preventive orthodontic services from simple to complex.
Ensures direct dental services are provided that are of quality and quantity consistent with IHS and service unit policies. Ensures direct and contract dental services plans, organizes, and administers a comprehensive dental health program for Pryor and Billings communities which meet the needs of the population served. Plans and implements a preventive (HPDP) dental program for the population serviced in order to efficiently utilize resources. Ensures GIPRA, Meaningful Use goals are a priority of the program, and the department adheres to accreditation standards.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education
Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association(external link) (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation(external link) (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure
Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations(external link) (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations(external link) (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provide restorative, pediatric, periodontic, endodontic, prosthodontic, diagnostic, surgical, and preventative dental services; Perform oral surgeries, such as extraction of impacted teeth or full mouth extraction; Perform prosthodontic cases, including crown/bridges, complete dentures, and relines; Perform routine pedodontic procedures, as well as treating cases of rampant caries in children; Perform case management and treatment of medically complex cases and obtain medical clearances to provide comprehensive dental care.
Experience
Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.
Additional Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the above Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
