This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Small Grain & Food Crops Quality Research Unit in Fargo, ND.
In this position, you will actively participate in one or more phases of the research process related to crops by performing a variety of technical duties in a laboratory environment.
Duties
Actively participates in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of complex technical duties.
Keeps detailed record of experimental data.
Maintains records and locates or compiles data or other information from various sources.
Performs quality analysis on crop samples.
Maintains, calibrates, and modifies equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

GS-6
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience collecting or preparing samples in a laboratory environment; recording and analyzing scientific data; and performing routine and recurring techniques using a variety of specialized equipment.

Education: Successful completion of one full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include Biological Science, Food Science, Agricultural science, Chemical science, or Chemistry.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
GS-7
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in one or more phases of a crop research project; collecting and analyzing crop samples; interpreting laboratory results and keeping records of experimental data; operating and maintaining equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.

Education: Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include Biological Science, Food Science, Agricultural science, Chemical science, or Chemistry.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-08 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in a research project or experiment related to cereal crops; collecting and evaluating cereal crop samples for end-use quality or food processing; researching and recommending solutions to technical difficulties; and assisting in the development or improvement of techniques or procedures within the experiment process.

Education: Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include Biological Science, Food Science, Agricultural science, Chemical science, or Chemistry.

A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
