You will serve as Chief of the Occupational Safety, Health, and Medical Services Division providing supervision of health and safety professionals in the implementation of Occupational Safety and Health programs that directly impact the employees of the center, program and projects, and institutional activities.

Duties

Serves as expert institutional safety authority to the SMA Director regarding regulatory matters concerning Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer (OCHMO) requirements and guidelines. Develops and implements a comprehensive surveillance program to ensure compliance with NASA Policies, Procedures, and Standards, including the evaluation of audit findings and corrective actions or assessing overall resource requirements . Communicates timely and effectively in both written and verbal forms with subordinate staff and leadership from across the center to resolve technical issues and interpersonal or interorganizational conflicts. Provides oversight to contract task orders supporting the work of the Division to assure tasks are clearly defined, deliverables are assessed with respect to the task orders, and work is completed within the allocated budget. Oversees the Division’s budget through establishing budget projections and managing expenses within the established budget guideline. Fosters collaboration and teamwork within the Division, across Divisions within the SMA directorate and with organizations across the center and agency. Performs a full range of supervisory duties which includes assigning and evaluating work; recommending personnel actions; taking disciplinary actions; and identifying training needs and developing employees. Requirements

• Current Federal employees must meet qualifications, time in grade, and 90 days after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

• If the individual selected is currently at the GS-15 grade level, they will be detailed at their current grade and step. If the individual is a current GS-14, they will be temporarily promoted to the GS-14 level.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify at the GS-15 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Providing technical expertise in the interpretation and application of safety or health regulations and procedural requirements and in the interpretation and compliance with OSHA standards, such as 29 CFR 1960, 29 CFR 1926, or other applicable safety and health mandates; Consulting, advising and negotiating solutions with management and project officials concerning compliance with policy, procedures, and processes related to safety programs; Directing or leading teams to meet project goals and requirements while fostering team commitment, facilitating cooperation and motivating team members to accomplish group goals.
