This position is located at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center, Spokane, Washington. The primary purpose of this position is to act as a primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
Beneficiary Travel (BT) staff review, adjudicates, authorizes and schedules travel for Veterans traveling from their home to VA medical appointment(s).
The BT staff accepts inbound and outbound transportation calls from veterans and staff concerning transportation arrangements.
The BT department administers beneficiary travel program benefits to beneficiaries and their attendants who meet eligibility criteria.
Provides transportation at Government expense to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities.
He or she serves as a critical link to patient's access to care and clinic efficiency.
Utilizes various software applications to accurately determine and/or verify Veteran eligibility.
Correctly determines which of several Fund Control Points (FCP), to utilize, entering authorizations.
Contacts the approving official to authorize obligations and requests for additions, deductions, and/or movement of funds.
Assists veterans with waiver applications when Veteran has experienced a major change in income.
Coordinates patient transfer with other VAs ensuring the patient arrives at a specified time for admission.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Telework Eligibility: On an Ad-hoc basis.
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.
Qualifications
The following are minimum requirements for appointment as a Transportation Assistant in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), which all applicants must met.
Specialized Experience (GS-06): You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: performing clerical duties in an office environment; processing claims; performing data entry utilizing computer software; utilizing automated systems and running reports; and scheduling/coordinating travel/transportation arrangements. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical demands requiring the employee to be versatile in the many functions performed. These include sedentary work performed at a desk with intermittent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of lightweight records or supplies.
