This is a Term Appointment, initial appointment is not to exceed 13 months. Term Appointments may be extended up to a total of 4 years.
Duties
This job opportunity is located in the Operations and Maintenance Unit, Facilities Management Section, Support Services Branch, National Processing Center (NPC), Jeffersonville, IN. The Section is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the buildings of the NPC. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, pipefitting, water treatment, and other trade tasks in support of the Section's mission.This position is included in the bargaining unit.The individual selected for this position will:
Repair and maintain all road and ground equipment including forklifts, tractors, etc.; Read blueprints and wiring diagrams to perform conventional electrical wiring jobs such as cutting, replacing, splicing, tightening and soldering wiring to existing connections;
Install and repair a variety of electrical equipment, such as light fixtures, fans, relays and connections for machines and office appliances;
Erect, alter, repair, and/or remove partitions of wood, glass, metal, plastic, sheet rock, acoustical tile, or related materials; Adjust, clean, repair, and replace as necessary, drinking fountains, lavatories, sinks and other plumbing fixtures;
Use various tools of the trade such as wrenches, pliers, power driven pipe threading and cutting machines, electric pipe cleaning equipment, motor driven water pumps, snakes and plumber's friend;
Participate in maintaining an inventory; Be required to operate a forklift or unload/load trucks, as needed.
Tour of Duty: Hours will be Wednesday through Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hours range between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. AWS and other flexible work schedules are not initially available but may be offered at a later time. Alternate Work Schedule is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days; i.e., eight 9-hour days/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note to current NPC employees: If you are a current NPC employee and are selected from this announcement, this selection will change your type of appointment to a Term Appointment. At the end of this Term Appointment, your employment with NPC will end. You will be required to re-compete for any permanent positions. In some cases, you may be eligible for reinstatement.
