Duty Location: Napa, California
Duties
As a Park Ranger with the California-Great Basin Region, your duties will include:
Providing information and guidance to visitors on a variety of resources, facilities, and activities.
Coordinating implementation of wildlife program objectives with other participating agencies.
Developing interpretative materials and displays, and giving presentations to interested groups.
Preparing presentations on safety awareness, ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and other related topics.
Patrolling various areas and monitoring conditions to ensure regulatory and administrative compliance.
Initiating and tracking purchase orders for a variety of required services, equipment, and/or
materials.
Monitoring the use of various park facilities and resources (i.e., leased land, docks, roads, etc.)
Performing other related duties as assigned within this classification.

Qualifications
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement -- this information must be clearly supported in the resume.
To qualify for the GS-9: You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal civil service, having demonstrated the following in relation to the management and conservation of natural and cultural resources: 1) Performing ground patrols to monitor conditions and/or inspect areas for evidence of unauthorized use, trespassing, or vandalism; 2) Developing interpretive materials (e.g., pamphlets, exhibits, signboards, etc.) and/or coaching junior rangers on interpretive program objectives; 3) Assisting visitors during emergencies and/or providing direction or guidance during special events; 4) Enforcing various ordinances aimed at preserving the environment, protecting wildlife, and ensuring visitor safety. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level in the Federal civil service (GS-7).
You could otherwise qualify on the basis of education through completion of 2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education -or- a master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation.
Accepted majors of study as defined by OPM: Natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled.
You may also combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualification criteria for the position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Current career or career-conditional employees in the Federal civil service are required to complete a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the Federal civil service (GS-7).
You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification criteria, including time-in-grade requirements, by 08/16/2024.
Education
This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience at the GS-9 grade level. You must submit a copy of college transcript(s) (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. A typed list of courses, grades, semester/quarter hours, GPA, etc. will not be accepted. Non-submission may result in being rated as not qualified for the position.
You will be required to provide official college transcripts to verify educational qualifications, if selected. An official transcript must be sent directly from the University's Registrar's office and must be provided from the institution awarding the degree. Academic transcripts certified by notary publics are NOT official. Official transcripts must be submitted prior to reporting to work as a condition of employment. Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
