THIS IS A NORTH DAKOTA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This ND National Guard position is for a FLIGHT ENGINEER (INSTRUCTOR), Position Description Number D0606000 and is part of the ND AVIATION, National Guard.

Duties

The purpose of the position is to instruct and perform flight crew work supporting army aircraft, and to provide assistance to the pilot in the overall operation of the aircraft. The aircrafts missions include air assault, Mission Essential Tasks and DCSA operations (movement of passengers, heavy supplies, and equipment), and air support of national disasters and state contingencies. Serves as instructor/flight examiner providing instruction, evaluation and examination on ground and operational training flights to develop and upgrade skills of aircrew members. Applying knowledge of the full range of aircrew duties and responsibilities, methods of instruction and requirements of the program, performs standardization. May perform duties of Flight Engineer which includes utilizing a knowledge of major aircraft systems associated with army aircraft. Incumbent inspects condition and readiness of aircraft, accompanies pilots on preflight/in-flight inspections, aircraft test flights, and operational checks. Uses, inspects, instructs on, and maintains aircraft installed mission essential equipment.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the ND National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the ND National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the ND National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposition is mandatory.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain an eligibility for a secret clearance.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Incumbent must obtain the Army Flight Instructor Certification within 24 months of appointment.

PCS STATEMENT: PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION COSTS WILL NOT BE PAID FOR THIS POSITION. MILITARY GRADES: Enlisted COMPATIBILE MILITARY ASSIGNMENTS: 15T Compatible MOS is not a disqualifying factor of eligibility, however, selected applicant must obtain the compatible MOS. Army Flight Instructor Certification preferred. QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have the experience which has provided you with a knowledge of aircraft weight and balance computations; aircraft performance data; aircraft records maintenance; and aircraft systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade which includes: 1) Apply the knowledge of the full range of aircrew duties and responsibilities to plan and create aircrew training programs; 2)Work experience with the repair and maintenance of major aircraft systems associated with UH72/ UH60; 3) Skill in instructing tasks to individuals who will later be evaluated; and 4) Perform a variety of administrative functions, such as scheduling, filing, and data entry.
