The James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center is larger than just a single facility, but rather a
system of facilities throughout Northeastern Illinois which provide medical care and dental services
to U.S. Military Veterans, Recruits, Active Duty and eligible beneficiaries. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and repair of the A/C equipment, and other related duties as directed, used at this facility.
Duties
Major Duties:
Installs, maintains, exchanges and cleans air conditioning units. Maintains and repairs various
types of centralized, multiple-zone air conditioning systems using manufacturers' instructions,
blueprints and diagrams.
Installs, adjusts, and repairs pneumatic controls used to control refrigeration, air conditioning and
humidity systems, using manufacturers' instructions and schematics.
Installs, leak tests and insulates refrigeration lines and control lines used on air conditioning and
refrigeration systems using proper solder and soldering equipment, leak detectors, meters and
insulating materials.
Incumbent installs compressors, various valves, evaporators, air dryers, electrical components,
filter dryers and all refrigeration related parts.
Maintains and repairs central and portable domestic cold water systems using his ability to
troubleshoot and repair refrigeration systems, pumping systems and filter systems.
Maintains and repairs various types of ice making equipment using schematic drawings,
manufacturers' instructions, volt-ohm meters and leak detectors.
Independently troubleshoots, maintains and repairs all domestic and commercial type refrigerators
and freezers, using manufacturers' instructions, blueprints and wiring diagrams plans time required
to repair and place materials on order as needed

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
