This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration, in General Craft Services (TFHS), Construction & Maintenance Services (TFH), which is part of Transmission Field Services (TF), Transmission Services (T).
A successful candidate in the Welder position will lay out and fabricate welded products in the shop or at other installations in the BPA system. The incumbent completes the work in a timely and efficient manner without more than normal supervision.

- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- This position requires an initial drug test prior to appointment and random drug and alcohol testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug and alcohol tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from employment.
- This position requires a preemployment medical exam, at BPA expense, prior to appointment due to the physical requirements of the position.
- After employment, this position may be subject to periodic physical examinations, as prescribed by competent medical authority and at BPA expense, if exposed to health hazards.
- Must obtain and maintain a BPA Welder Certificate.
- Must possess and maintain a U.S. Motor Vehicle Operator Authorization a good driving record and a valid Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) from state of residence.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid non-electrical worker's permit within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain authorized unescorted access to BPA energized and non-energized facilities.
- Must possess and maintain a valid First Aid Card. Take First Aid refresher training.
- Must be certified on aerial lift equipment or other equipment when assigned to use or operate within 90 days of appointment.
- Additional endorsements on valid driver's license may be required to operate assigned vehicles in compliance with state regulations. Traffic citations indicating poor driving habits may disqualify applicants.

The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to successfully perform the work of a Welder defined as safely performing the majority of the following welding duties: use templates, blueprints, and other guides to repair, modify or fabricate metal items and weld metal parts and structures, weld in positions to include flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead; use various heavy machine tools, such as power saws, cut off saws, CNC guided plasma and oxy-fuel cutting machine, drill press, and pipe bending machines without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Individuals selected for interview will be required to successfully demonstrate required welding and pass the BPA Welder Certification test prior to selection.
Physical Requirements:
Able to climb in and out of aerial manlift buckets averaging 40" high. May be required to work at heights up to 100 feet from aerial ladders and boom truck baskets. Requires good balance while climbing on ladders and scaffolding and while accessing buckets. Ability to stand an average of 2 hours with a maximum of 5 hours uninterrupted. Lifts tools and equipment. Average is 20 pounds. May lift, carry, and handle heavy awkward materials up to 100 pounds. Moves and positions equipment and materials weighing over 100 pounds such as acetylene bottles, steel pedestals, parts for fabrication, aluminum bus fittings, on shop carts requiring 50 pounds of exertion. Works in cramped, awkward positions while reaching, lifting, bending and using hand and power tools, and positioning pieces. Shop and field work requires work with arms overhead or occasionally outstretched for extended periods of time. To receive directions from co-workers, listen for telephone. Ability to hear warning devices and abnormal noises. Requires good spatial ability/depth perception, night vision, and sufficient color discrimination to distinguish color-coding or shade variations. Must be able to distinguish red and its varying shades to distinguish the temperature of various stages of heated metal. Distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 or better in each eye to meet DOT regulations.
