This position is located at Cape Cod National Seashore, in the Managment Division. Salary Ranger GS-09: $67,743 - $88,065 Salary Range GS-11: $81,963 - $106,549 Government housing may be available. Duties

Serve as the subject matter expert and principal advisor responsible for planning, developing, directing and coordinating a safety/occupational and environmental health program. Evaluate, compile and analyze behavioral, work environment, and accident statistical data, and prepares charts, tables and reports to communicate this information to management, staff, and others. Coordinate and oversee the development of education and training material and conducts training programs for managers, supervisors, staff, and park concessionaires. Coordinate and/or conduct annual inspections to ensure programs are current and compatible with all Occupational Safety and Health, Public Risk Management, and Environmental Health laws, regulations, policies, directives and guidance Provide guidance to and/or lead teams in investigating accidents to help identify chain of events, root causes, corrective actions, recommendations for improvement and follow-up to ensure corrective action has been taken. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/22/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Knowledge of general management functions, practices, and procedures sufficient to provide a foundation which will enable the safety and occupational health specialist to understand organizational objectives, safety and occupational health principles, regulations, standards, and work processes. Knowledge of organizational structure sufficient to acquire data and information for the preparation of accurate reports on work hazards, safety activities, and mishaps. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited educational institution concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of this position, such as in safety, occupational health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first divide your number of semester hours in excess of 36 semester hours by 18 or the number your school uses to represent one year of full time graduate academic study. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Managing safety or occupational health program elements. Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first divide your number of semester hours in excess of 36 semester hours by 18 or the number your school uses to represent one year of full time graduate academic study. To calculate your percentage of experience, divide your months of qualifying specialized experience by 12. Add the two percentages. They must equal 100% to qualify using this option. You must include transcripts.
