The Nurse role is located in the Bureau of Medical Services (MED), focused on safeguarding the health and well-being of the diplomatic community, supporting the Department of State's diplomatic missions, overseeing primary care and mental health services, managing hospitalizations and medical evacuations abroad, and assessing local health risks and medical facilities for employees and their eligible family members at U.S. diplomatic missions.
Duties
Ensures patient safety and maintains the highest standards of care; participates in clinical investigations of reported unintended medical events, conducts thorough root cause analysis, and plays a crucial role in identifying areas for improvement.
Conduct comprehensive peer reviews and implement quality improvement activities; expertise in maintaining compliance with internal and external standards, including aligning standards with the Joint Commission and other critical regulatory bodies.
As a Nurse Consultant, you will have the opportunity to provide essential training to medical personnel, in medical event investigation, quality management techniques, credential verification, and peer review processes and remediation.
Review and coordinate responses to privacy act and other information requests, safeguarding the security and confidentiality of medical information.
Ensure QM compliance with agency standards, manage document control, collect metrics, measure customer satisfaction, and make improvements based on feedback contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the MED.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure:
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

IN ADDITION to meeting the basic requirements above, you MUST have at least 1 or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that provided you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of qualifying equivalent experience include:
Experience investigating unintended medical events and patient safety practices using quality management principles, root cause analysis, clinical peer review and analytical techniques to formulate and communicate findings.
Experience with database usage and management for documenting and organizing data and extracting medical information and researching clinical issues.
Experience providing advisory services, researching, analyzing and evaluating cases against U.S. standards of medical care and developing corrective action plans.
