About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation.
Duties
Perform various duties concerned with preparation and application of paint to achieve desired performance finish on aircraft, airframes, component parts, and related equipment.
Prepare surfaces for painting using applicable technical instructions for scuffing and washing substrates prior to application of coatings.
Reduce paint to the required viscosity, validate and apply coating to thickness requirements and test for proper adhesion to include dry film thickness.
Check masking and preparation prior to various substrate surfaces to be sprayed.
Apply various coatings using Hi Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) pressure spray guns, pressure pots, gravity gun, brushes, and aerosols.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position is covered by the civilian drug testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, condition of employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the drug abuse testing program.
- This position requires passing an annual IH-OHC Chromium VI/Isocyanate Examination.
- This position requires passing and maintaining a respirator medical clearance.
- This position requires passing an annual vision test for acuity, depth and color perception.
- This position requires successfully completing training in hazardous waste management procedures within six months (6) after the date of appointment and must participate in annual review.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Painter, WG-05 without more than normal supervision. The reliability and dependability to assist with tasks as a Painter Helper duty such as preparing items and components for paint or coating materials by methods and techniques such as sanding, wire brushing, scraping, masking, taping, washing or wiping with solvents or other methods under close guidance. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Painter, WG-07 without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common Painter Worker tasks. Assist journeyman painters by taping and masking in preparation for painting; using pneumatic sander, properly sand parts/equipment without causing damage; mixing chemicals in accordance with technical publication, preparing surfaces for wash, applying cleaning materials by brush or machine and cleaning, degreasing and removing oil or wax buildup. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Painter, WG-09 without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common Painter tasks. Prepare surfaces for paint by removing paint, rust, and surface imperfections by hand sanding, using a wire brush, spackling, or applying putty; and following a standard of work to ensure desired end product is achieved. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Prolonged standing, walking, and continuous lifting. Lifts and positions items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Required to stoop, bend and work in tiring positions. Continual use of arms, hands and fingers.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposed to paint fumes, compound thinner and various solvents. Works in surroundings requiring the use of protective clothing and gear, e.g., air filter masks, hooded suit, gloves, aprons, etc., as working conditions may warrant. Exposed to heat of oven and the danger of possible burns while handling parts. Subject to considerable noise in shop.
