The Deployed Resiliency Counselor (DRC) serves as a credentialed clinical counselor, assigned to support a Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier (CVN) or Large Deck Amphibious Assault Ship/ Landing Helicopter Assault Ship (LHD/LHA) Command, deploying with the ship that they are assigned to, and providing support services to deployed forces aboard the ship while afloat and at homeport.

Duties

The primary purpose of the position is to provide professional short-term, solution-focused individual and group counseling for commonly occurring life situations and education on resiliency/wellness topics in a shipboard environment, throughout a ship's lifecycle (pier-side, shipyard maintenance, "work-ups" and deployments). The incumbent will also serve as a liaison to the homeport Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC), providing immediate sexual assault response and coordination to allegations of sexual assault. The success of this position is based on the incumbent's ability to successfully embed within the command and operate within a shipboard environment. The DRC actively engages crew members in various resiliency programs in order to ensure highest level of crew readiness for complex missions at sea. The DRC serves as a liaison to the homeport Family Advocacy Program (FAP) and provides safety assessment, safety planning, triage, and treatment for allegations of alleged child or domestic abuse. The DRC assesses and triages clients presenting with a risk of harm to self or others, with appropriate referral to the nearest behavioral health provider. The DRC provides Sailor Assistance and Intercept for Life (SAIL) case management including: assessment, safety planning, and care coordination for active duty personnel with suicide related behavior. The DRC participates in Command Resiliency Team (CRT) initiatives, aiding and providing insight into active duty wellness programs.

Requirements

  • Must pass all applicable records and background check to include Child Care National Agency Check and Inquiry (CNACI) background check.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen; must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Due to the unique nature of the position, selectee will be required to complete a physical examination upon entry to duty and annually thereafter and be determined to be physical fit for shipboard duty at all times.
  • The incumbent will be required to deploy at sea on board US Navy ships. Deployment lengths will vary from a few days to over 10 months at a time. The incumbent will receive a deployment differential of 40% of her/his salary while deployed.
  • The work schedule while deployed will vary depending on requirements. The incumbent will be on call 24 hours a day while deployed for crisis intervention situations.
  • At sea, the incumbent shares a stateroom in officer berthing; meals are in the Officer's Wardroom and are billed monthly.

Qualifications

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours worked per week. Additionally, you must include your licensure number on your resume. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. The incumbent shall be Tier III qualified as outlined in Navy FFSP Credentials Review and Clinical Privileging requirements. These include: 1) Current, valid, unrestricted state licensure or certification that provides legal authority to provide clinical services as an independent practitioner in the fields of Licensed Professional Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Social Work, Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology; AND (2) When the state licensing or certification requirements include a written examination, candidates must have achieved a passing score on that examination. (3) Must have engaged in 2 years (which includes at least 2000 hours) full-time, postmasters supervised clinical experience. (4) Have two years, full-time post-license clinical experience. Note: When the state or U.S. territory licensing or certification requirements include a written examination, candidates for privileging must have achieved a passing score on that examination.

Education

Possess one of the following degrees:

(1) Master's degree from a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs or an equivalent degree.

(2) Master's degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education or an equivalent degree.

(3) Master's degree in Social Work from a graduate school of Social Work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education or an equivalent degree.

(4) Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited university or professional school and a 1-year APA accredited clinical internship.

Note: Your degree must be from an accredited college recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
