This position is located in the Air Traffic Organization (ATO), Safety and Technical Training, Policy & Performance Directorate, Safety Performance Group (AJI-3400). This Group is responsible for creating and managing safety performance metrics and for incorporating human performance management programs, data and efforts to maximize safety performance.
Duties
The Human Factors Scientist applies experience and detailed technical knowledge of scientific principals related to human factors and industrial/organizational psychology to analyze human performance data and information to assist senior scientists in the development of program and policy plans. Assists more experienced scientists by evaluating individual cognitive factors that affect human performance in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) operational workforce. Performs a mixture of routine and multiple and varying assignments under the limited direction of a manager or more experienced technical specialist. The work activities typically support the activities of the organizational unit and may affect project/program objectives for AJI and the ATO. In some areas, the work may affect the safety and security of customers.

Qualifications
IN ADDITION TO THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-G, FG/GS-11 level. This experience is typically related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE IS DEFINED AS:Experience collecting and analyzing work space data to assess workspace features and dynamics that impact employee performance.Experience reviewing topics and identifying opportunities to apply human performance and fatigue methods in aviationYou should include relevant examples of the specialized experience in your work history. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Degree: Behavioral or Social Science (or related disciplines appropriate to the position); or a combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
