About the Position: As a Deckhand Leader assigned to the M/V Benyaurd you will work under the general supervision of the Master, Mate, Pilot, or other higher graded employee. Sets the pace for and works with Deckhands in performing duties.
NOTE: The duty location of this position will be wherever the M/V Benyaurd is located.
Duties
Signal boat operators or winchman concerning directions, operating capstans, small electric cranes and listances when vision is obscured.
Use capstans, winches, ratchets, and other deck equipment as required in accomplishing work.
Operate capstans or winches in loading, setting, pulling and resetting of buoys and weights, buoys and weights to be set or moved by attaching hooks and/or serving cables.
Operate outboard motor boats in picking up loose buoys from sand bars.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Deckhand Leader without more than normal supervision ???????which is described as: Connecting towing or dredging operations, channel patrol and maintenance of aids to navigation and revetment construction operations, i.e. handles and fastens lines to moor boats, barges and other floating craft, to secure other craft coming along side, and/or in making up and breaking us of tows. Use capstans, winches, ratchets, and other deck equipment as required in accomplishing work. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Substantial physical effort is required in the handling of heavy cables, equipment and machinery. May lift up to 50 pounds or more. Work may involve long periods of standing, lifting, climbing, and walking.
Work Conditions: Works inside and outside under all weather conditions. Subject to failing overboard and hazards attending moving plant. Subject to splashing and slippery decks. Uses hand tools characteristic of indicated duties.
