Duties
You will serve as a Library Technician responsible for providing reference and research assistance to a variety of library clients. The reference services provided include engineering, technology, construction, development, design, safety and various other reference materials. Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include: - Responding to requests for searches; processing materials for specialized collections; - Maintaining materials for specialized collections; - Performing digital creation and capture of documents. - Providing reference services; - Arranging and describing work for a major body of records; - Assisting in the acquisition and/or disposition of records; and, - Using computerized search tools and/or databases.

Qualifications
Candidates at the GS-6 level must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: preparing materials for conversion into various mediums; using automated tools to assist customers with requests for materials; assisting customers with automated equipment or other research tools; performing database searches, maintenance, and indexing; assisting in updates to library collections; performing cataloging functions; and providing reference services to customers. Typically education is not creditable above the GS-5 level for most positions, however, candidates at the GS-6 level may meet the qualification requirements of the position if they possess at least 1/2 year of appropriate graduate level education in a field of study directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Candidates at the GS-6 level may also meet the qualification requirements of the position through a combination of appropriate specialized experience and appropriate graduate level education that together meet the qualification requirements for the position to be filled. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
