The Primary Purpose of the Position is to perform general office tasks to support the Patient Administration Service (PAS) Office of Community Care. The incumbent provides key program support to PAS by ensuring medical documentation is received from community providers and is uploaded and available for review by internal VA staff for Veterans being referred through the Community Care Program.
Duties
File Clerk Duties may include but not limited to:
Retrieves Community Care medical records from various locations and uploaded them into CPRS/Vista Imaging.
Reviews medical documents from Community provider
Assigns the correct document naming nomenclature, attaches the indexed/uploaded documents to a progress note viewable in CPRS
Ensures appropriate disposition of hard copy documents once indexing/uploading of documents has been verified.
Keep abreast of regulatory requirements governing indexing/uploading and maintenance and disposition of legal medical documents.
Computer skills necessary to carry out duties associated with the indexing/uploading of highly specialized medical information consisting of a variety of formatted forms (i.e., flow-sheets, narrative reports, Community Care medical reports) and classifying to correct entitled nomenclatures.
Demonstrate courteous, compassionate, caring, and respectful behavior when interacting in response to internal and external customer questions in person and/or on the telephone.
Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers through the application of effective listening and interpersonal skills (oral, written, and non-verbal).
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday / 0730-1600 or 0800-1630
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
General Experience: You must have one year of general experience. Examples of general experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledgeable of multiple systems and current computer technology regarding imaging and scanning applications, knowledge of medical record file systems, procedures, record retention, and procedures relating to the transfer and other disposition of hard copy records, basic knowledge of regulations governing the release of information, knowledge of the flow of health information and the retrieval of health information both within its section, outpatient facilities and community providers, skill of a qualified typist/keyboarder to perform data entry responsibilities, operate personal computers and computer terminal equipment and troubleshoots minor problems, OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of general experience and education beyond high school. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements: The work with computers is mainly sedentary in an office environment. However, paper records and documentation retrieval, filing, and records management involves walking (4 hours), standing (2-7 hours), extensive bending, reaching, lifting (under 15 pounds), kneeling, pulling, sitting (8 hours) and other physical exertion or strain
