You will serve as an ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will operates gasoline, multi-fuel, or diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction. You will operate material handling equipment, bulldozers, backhoes, road graders, front-end loaders, and large industrial tractor with pan or scraper attachments used in heavy construction and excavation projects. You will perform such functions as cutting, moving, digging, grading, and rolling earth, stone, sand, and other materials, and to maintain ditches, road shoulders and beds, and fire-lines. You will be able to evaluate types of soils, terrain features and to select the appropriate type equipment, attachments and/or accessories and configuration to execute assigned work in a safe and efficient manner. manner. You will move earth on steep slopes, graded curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, and other surfaces with similar rough features. You will have skills with hand, foot, and eye coordination, and, in addition, skills to judge depth perception, and a high degree of concentration to perform the operations necessary. You will use a surveying transit to determine cut and fill elevations and interprets blue prints/drawings for horizontal construction. You may operate other vehicles as workload requires, such as, tractors, wreckers, fuel trucks, large buses, and similar equipment; also act as a rigger/signal person. You may be required to operate hand-held radio to communicate with work crew.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States Class A Commercial Drivers' License and the ability to obtain Hazmat, Tanker and Passenger bus endorsements within 90 days of employment.
  • You may be required to obtain N (Tank), P (Passenger), and T (Trailer) endorsements.
  • You may be required to obtain and maintain a current Construction and Weight Handling Equipment Operator certification.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will satisfactorily complete prescribed training courses associated with general crane safety and rigging activities.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) operates heavy duty gasoline or diesel engine powered automotive and construction equipment such as forklifts, dump trucks, semi trucks, fuel trucks ,snow removal equipment, bulldozers, graders, backhoes, loaders, road rollers and similar equipment to level ground, move earth, grade roads, load and transport heavy materials; 2) services, recharges and installs storage batteries for electric type forklifts; and 3) must possess and maintain a valid state class "A" Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with the ability to obtain Hazmat, Tanker and Passenger bus endorsements within 90 days of employment.
