About the Position: This position is with the Blue Grass Chemical Activity, Chemical Operations Directorate, Laboratory and Monitoring Division. Please limit your resume to 5 pages. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 6 years.

Duties

Overhauls, repairs, rebuilds, modifies, troubleshoots, adjusts, installs, tests, inspects, fabricates, and maintains complex electronic equipment and/or complete electronic operational systems. Uses specialized and sophisticated electronic test equipment. Employs standard electronic troubleshooting techniques. Determines repair requirements - methods, techniques, tools and time. Determines work sequences of repair projects. Selects and uses a variety of standard test equipment; such as diagnostic equipment, voltmeters and multimeters. Reviews and interprets blueprints, schematics, technical manuals and wiring diagrams, when performing repair and troubleshooting duties. Coordinates with professional and technical personnel on matters involving operating specifications and modifications to equipment or systems. Responsible for the proper handling of specific hazardous wastes generated by the unit, activity or facility; operation of a hazardous waste generation points. Determines feasibility and cost effectiveness of making needed repairs. Maintain, repair, install, overhaul, adjust, calibrate, and modify Real Time Analytical Platform (RTAP) components such as heating and cooling systems, gas and electric generators, chemical agent monitoring systems and battery charging systems. Repair and fabricate electric and gas generators.

Requirements

  • This position must take and pass a pre-employment and an annual physical examination thereafter. And requires frequent, unassisted and assisted, lifting and carrying of supplies, materials, and equipment that may weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • This position may be required to participate in Chemical Incident or Mishap Response and Assistance (CIMRA).
  • This position will be required to wear chemical protective clothing and respirators.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be skilled at operating an electric, gasoline, or diesel powered forklifts with a lifting capacity up to 15,000 pounds and heights up to 168 inches.
  • The incumbent of this position must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license for the duration of the appointment.
  • This position requires travel to other duty locations approximately 5% of the time.
  • The incumbent of this position must qualify for and remain qualified for the Chemical Unescorted Access Program (UAP); AR 190-59.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements

Employee frequently lifts and carries up to 40 pounds. May occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. Work requires sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, and working in cramped or awkward positions. Occasionally work in high places may be required. Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors to distinguish color codes. Incumbent works in the toxic ammunition area and must pass physical examination requirement for working in the vicinity of toxic agents. Must apply first aid training including self-injection of antidotes to gases to which exposed. Incumbent is given blood test and physical examination to assure continued ability to work in a Chemical Limited Area. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside in unheated or inadequately ventilated structures. Incumbent is exposed to grease, dirt, and dust and is required to work in buildings with cement floors. There is a possibility of scrapes, bruises, burns, scratches, and electrical shocks. Uses such safety equipment as glasses, shoes, gloves, and coveralls, when working in close proximity to toxic crews. Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling, and related activities. There is a possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, gloves, respirator, etc.).
