The primary purpose of this position is to troubleshoot, diagnose, test, repair, modify, overhaul, inspect, and service powered and non-powered aerospace ground equipment (AGE).
Duties
Performs preventive maintenance on ground power and non-powered support systems. Performs periodic routine and special inspections of all scheduled equipment. Performs major maintenance on ground support and non-powered equipment such as power sources, major components, support components, and associated components
Accomplishes quality assurance evaluations on powered and non-powered AGE, associated support equipment, required documentation, and certified personal tasks
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment
Maintains and controls tools as established by the Air Force and the organization. Certifies work produced under the USA Technical Order Program
Complete work control documents in accordance with established procedures

- In certain situations, may be required to support aircraft as a flight line driver as directed by the supervisor
- May be required to travel with aircraft/equipment to a temporary location for a given amount of time
- Work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle up to and including a 2-1/2 ton truck and tow ground equipment in and out of the repair facility and to and from the flight line sub-pools. A valid driver's license would be required
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an NCS/SCI clearance. Incumbent has recurring access to classified information
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a Powered Support Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of powered and non-powered aerospace ground support equipment to include principles o electricity (AC/DC), solid-state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to powered and non-powered support systems, theory and operation of internal combustion diesel, gasoline, and gas turbine engines. Knowledge of tool, equipment, materials accounting and security
Ability to operate a computer and clean work area and or job site upon completion of work. Ability to apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives sufficient to provide
training to others
Knowledge of regulations, procedures, and policies related to record maintenance and documentation. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, and policy statements and USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures
Skills in reading, interpreting, and using wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides
Skill in using hand and power tools, instruments, test equipment, and electrical meters to include special tools such as hydraulic knockout tools, hammer drills, valve spring compressors, and micrometers. Skill in troubleshooting complex situations related to electrical power generators
Skill in installing, operating, inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and modifying generators, automatic transfer switches, and uninterruptible power systems, and in maintaining, overhauling, repairing, and reconditioning internal combustion engines to include diesel, gasoline, and gas turbine engines.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Performs work that involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes works in awkward positions or cramped areas. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to about 40 pounds and lifts heavier items using jacks, hoists, or help from other. Work requires frequent walking and bending.
WORKING CONDITIONS: May work inside or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside work may involve exposure to hot weather, rain or snow, or wet or icy conditions. Both inside and outside frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment, and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eyeglasses, hearing protection, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn for long periods. Breaks can be taken inside the break room, with emphasis placed on drinking sufficient fluids to maintain hydration.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
