Qualifications

NOTE:  You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement. In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-11 level, you must have one of the following: 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level defined as experience analyzing scientific information in freshwater and/or marine ecology to perform data analysis, prepare reports, and present report findings. 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree; or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; the education must be directly related and provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position equivalent combination of education and experience NOTE: 1 year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study; if that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours is considered an academic year of graduate study. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:  Skill in applying biological/ecological knowledge in modifying or adapting approaches to resolving challenging technical issues. Skill in conflict resolution strategies Ability to advise management on program requirements and issues Knowledge of a wide variety of concepts, principles, and practices on biology/ecology Ability to identify gaps or differences among programs and analyze whether the implemented strategies have the best likelihood of improving water quality and environmental outcomes. Knowledge of statues, regulations and environmental policies Ability to develop and/or revise Agency/regional guidance and policies supporting implementation of water programs Knowledge of contracting principles Skill in project management Skill in written communication Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

Biologist, 0401 - You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed.

Ecologist, 0408 - You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.
