About the Position: The purpose of this position is to evaluate, develop, maintain, and repair biomedical equipment used at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) in the treatment of patients, diagnosis of pathological conditions, and biomedical research. This employee may be required to perform in any assigned area of NMCP, outlying Branch Health Clinics, and operational Commands of the Atlantic Fleet.
Duties
Complete assigned preventative maintenance and other scheduled services on medical equipment, systems, and devices.
Utilize necessary references to gather information needed to acquire necessary repair parts, which may include parts for medical equipment no longer supported by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
Maintain equipment service history in the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) system.
Serve as a technical advisor in the purchase of new medical equipment.
Communicate with customers regarding equipment status and proper orientation of equipment.
Assist in the development of other preventative maintenance procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Lifting up to 35 pounds may be required.
- This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- Biomed Level II preferred but not required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing any two or more of the following: assisting in performing maintenance repairs of biomedical equipment; inspecting medical equipment to determine required current and preventive maintenance; utilizing an automated inventory system database to order parts and maintain equipment records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
